Introduction
A lot of people really do not believe this. That is, how you and I, and every Christian, can overcome every sin and bad habit in our life! This message is hard to teach, because it is hard to believe. To say a Christian can have victory over every sin and bad habit in their lives, is just to much for most people to believe. It is hard to believe, because the flesh does not want you to believe it. That way, the flesh keeps you defeated. But, the flesh can be defeated with the word of God.
STEP ONE - BELIEVE GOD
What is sin? See 1828 Noah Webster Dictionary definition below.
Sin - 1828 Noah Webster Dictionary
SIN, noun
1. The voluntary departure of a moral agent from a known rule of rectitude or duty, prescribed by God; any voluntary transgression of the divine law, or violation of a divine command; a wicked act; iniquity. sin is either a positive act in which a known divine law is violated, or it is the voluntary neglect to obey a positive divine command, or a rule of duty clearly implied in such command. sin comprehends not action only, but neglect of known duty, all evil thoughts purposes, words and desires, whatever is contrary to God's commands or law. 1 John 3:4. Matthew 12:31. James 4:17. Sinner neither enjoy the pleasures of nor the peace of piety.
Among divines, sin is original or actual. Actual sin above defined, is the act of a moral agent in violating a known rule of duty. Original sin as generally understood, is native depravity of heart to the divine will, that corruption of nature of deterioration of the moral character of man, which is supposed to be the effect of Adam's apostasy; and which manifests itself in moral agents by positive act of disobedience to the divine will, or by the voluntary neglect to comply with the express commands of God, which require that we should love God with all the heart and soul and strength and mind, and our neighbor as ourselves. This native depravity or alienation of affections from God and his law, is supposed to be what the apostle calls the carnal mind or mindedness, which is enmity against God, and is therefore denominated sin or sinfulness.
Unpardonable sin or blasphemy against the Holy Spirit, is supposed to be a malicious and obstinate rejection of Christ and the gospel plan of salvation, or a contemptuous resistance made to the influences and convictions of the Holy Spirit. Matthew 12:31.
2. A sin-offering; an offering made to atone for sin He hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin 2 Corinthians 5:21.
3. A man enormously wicked. [Not in use.]
4. sin differs from crime, not in nature, but in application. That which is a crime against society, is sin against God.
SIN, verb intransitive
1. To depart voluntarily from the path of duty prescribed by God to man; to violate the divine law in any particular, by actual transgression or by the neglect or non-observance of its injunctions; to violate any known rule of duty.
All have sinned and come short of the glory of God. Romans 3:9. Against thee, thee only, have I sinned. Psalms 51:2.
2. To offend against right, against men or society; to trespass.
I am a man more sinn'd against than sinning. And who but wishes to invert the laws of order, sins against the' eternal cause. (Shakespeare)
And who but wishes to invert the laws of order, sins against th' eternal cause. (Alexander Pope)

The flesh is the old nature of sin that dwells in every person. The old nature is called the old man. After years of study, Pastor Watkins is lead to believe the old nature in us is actually a spirit. And that old man (spirit) in us tempts us to sin. See (Galatians 5:19-21) below.
Galatians 5:19-21

All of these above sins, a Christian is capable of committing! The word capable is used. Meaning, not that you have to commit sin, or are forced to commit sin. In fact, if you are a saved person, you do not have to give in to these sins mentioned in (Galatians 5:19-21) above.
You can overcome sin! Look at (1 John 2:1) below. This verse gives some people nightmares. But if you understand it, and believe it, it will not.
1 John 2:1
1 My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not. And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous:
1 My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not. And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous:
YE SIN NOT! Can you name one sin you just have to commit? It must be possible not to sin, because the Apostle John said, "That ye sin not!" Look at (Ephesians 5:3-7) below.
Ephesians 5:3-7
3 But fornication, and all uncleanness, or covetousness, let it not be once named among you, as becometh saints;
4 Neither filthiness, nor foolish talking, nor jesting, which are not convenient: but rather giving of thanks.
5 For this ye know, that no whoremonger, nor unclean person, nor covetous man, who is an idolater, hath any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God.
6 Let no man deceive you with vain words: for because of these things cometh the wrath of God upon the children of disobedience.
7 Be not ye therefore partakers with them.
3 But fornication, and all uncleanness, or covetousness, let it not be once named among you, as becometh saints;
In (Romans Chapter 6) below, we see how (John 2:1) and (Ephesians 5:3-7) is possible. In (Romans Chapter 6), we see that we are baptised by the Spirit into Christ. We become identified with Christ. So, that what is true of Christ, is true of you. When Christ died, you died with Him. When you died with Christ, you became dead to sin. When you became dead to sin, you became free from sin.
Romans Chapter 6
1 What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound?
2 God forbid. How shall we, that are dead to sin, live any longer therein?
3 Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death?
4 Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.
5 For if we have been planted together in the likeness of his death, we shall be also in the likeness of his resurrection:
6 Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin.
7 For he that is dead is freed from sin.
8 Now if we be dead with Christ, we believe that we shall also live with him:
9 Knowing that Christ being raised from the dead dieth no more; death hath no more dominion over him.
10 For in that he died, he died unto sin once: but in that he liveth, he liveth unto God.
11 Likewise reckon ye also yourselves to be dead indeed unto sin, but alive unto God through Jesus Christ our Lord.
12 Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, that ye should obey it in the lusts thereof.
13 Neither yield ye your members as instruments of unrighteousness unto sin: but yield yourselves unto God, as those that are alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness unto God.
14 For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace.
15 What then? shall we sin, because we are not under the law, but under grace? God forbid.
16 Know ye not, that to whom ye yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants ye are to whom ye obey; whether of sin unto death, or of obedience unto righteousness?
17 But God be thanked, that ye were the servants of sin, but ye have obeyed from the heart that form of doctrine which was delivered you.
18 Being then made free from sin, ye became the servants of righteousness.
19 I speak after the manner of men because of the infirmity of your flesh: for as ye have yielded your members servants to uncleanness and to iniquity unto iniquity; even so now yield your members servants to righteousness unto holiness.
20 For when ye were the servants of sin, ye were free from righteousness.
21 What fruit had ye then in those things whereof ye are now ashamed? for the end of those things is death.
22 But now being made free from sin, and become servants to God, ye have your fruit unto holiness, and the end everlasting life.
23 For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
1 What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound?
2 God forbid. How shall we, that are dead to sin, live any longer therein?

Look at (Romans 6:6-7) below. Are you free from the power of sin today? That is what (Romans 6:6-7) says. The old nature of sin is still residing in you, but you are freed from him. When sin says come and go with me, you do not have to go anymore. (Romans Chapter 6) above is a radical chapter, because most Christians do not believe that chapter today. Most Christians today believe they are free from the penalty of sin, yet, they do not believe they are free from the power and dominion of sin. Most Christians today believe you have to struggle and strive with the power of sin, and that complete victory is not possible. Wake up! (Romans Chapter 5) below shows us we are free from sin's penalty. (Romans Chapter 6) above shows us we are free from sin's power.
Romans 6:6-7
6 Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin.
7 For he that is dead is freed from sin.
6 Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin.
7 For he that is dead is freed from sin.
Wake up! (Romans Chapter 5) below shows us we are free from sin's penalty. (Romans Chapter 6) above shows us we are free from sin's power.
Romans Chapter 5
1 Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ:
2 By whom also we have access by faith into this grace wherein we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God.
3 And not only so, but we glory in tribulations also: knowing that tribulation worketh patience;
4 And patience, experience; and experience, hope:
5 And hope maketh not ashamed; because the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us.
6 For when we were yet without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly.
7 For scarcely for a righteous man will one die: yet peradventure for a good man some would even dare to die.
8 But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.
9 Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him.
10 For if, when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, being reconciled, we shall be saved by his life.
11 And not only so, but we also joy in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom we have now received the atonement.
12 Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned:
13 (For until the law sin was in the world: but sin is not imputed when there is no law.
14 Nevertheless death reigned from Adam to Moses, even over them that had not sinned after the similitude of Adam's transgression, who is the figure of him that was to come.
15 But not as the offence, so also is the free gift. For if through the offence of one many be dead, much more the grace of God, and the gift by grace, which is by one man, Jesus Christ, hath abounded unto many.
16 And not as it was by one that sinned, so is the gift: for the judgment was by one to condemnation, but the free gift is of many offences unto justification.
17 For if by one man's offence death reigned by one; much more they which receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness shall reign in life by one, Jesus Christ.)
18 Therefore as by the offence of one judgment came upon all men to condemnation; even so by the righteousness of one the free gift came upon all men unto justification of life.
19 For as by one man's disobedience many were made sinners, so by the obedience of one shall many be made righteous.
20 Moreover the law entered, that the offence might abound. But where sin abounded, grace did much more abound:
21 That as sin hath reigned unto death, even so might grace reign through righteousness unto eternal life by Jesus Christ our Lord.
1 Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ:

Why would Christ die to save us from the penalty of sin, and not also from the power of sin? Christ has not left you to save yourself from the power of sin. God knows you cannot save yourself from the penalty and power of sin. Jesus Christ saved us from the penalty of sin, and from the power of sin! Therefore, we do not have to struggle with the penalty of sin, nor, with the power of sin. Jesus Christ did all the work for us.
Look at (Romans 6:14-16) below. "For sin shall not have dominion over you!" This is written to Saints, that have the old nature still residing in them (the old nature that resides in all human beings).
Romans 6:14-16
14 For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace.
15 What then? shall we sin, because we are not under the law, but under grace? God forbid.
16 Know ye not, that to whom ye yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants ye are to whom ye obey; whether of sin unto death, or of obedience unto righteousness?
14 For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace.
15 What then? shall we sin, because we are not under the law, but under grace? God forbid.
16 Know ye not, that to whom ye yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants ye are to whom ye obey; whether of sin unto death, or of obedience unto righteousness?
Below we see what the word "dominion" means.

Most Pastors and Christians today do not believe what (Romans 6:14) above says. But that does not matter. That is what God says. So when sin rears its ugly head in you, you can honestly say, "Sin, you shall not have dominion over me!" You can honestly say, "Sin, I have dominion over you!" You have dominion over that old man of sin that resides in you!
CHRIST NOT ONLY DIED FOR SINS PENALTY, HE ALSO DIED FOR SINS POWER! WE CAN LIVE IN COMPLETE VICTORY RIGHT NOW BY THE WORKS OF CHRIST, AND NOT BY ANY WORKS THAT WE HAVE DONE! Look at (Romans 6:12) below. Prior to being a saved person by Christ, sin reigned over the mortal body. When saved, that does not have to be the case any longer. Wake up you Christians! God has cut us lose from the sin nature of man.

12 Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, that ye should obey it in the lusts thereof.
12 Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, that ye should obey it in the lusts thereof.
Why do Christians still sin? It is because they do not know they are free from sin. They do not know God has cut them free of sin. They think their relationship to sin is the same as before they were saved. Christians think it is impossible to live in victory over sin, and so they live in defeat. Look at what Jesus said in (John 8:32) below. If you do not know the truth, or do not believe the truth, you will never be free of sin. you will live in constant defeat and half victories. Freedom from sin is something we have to recon by faith. A true fact! You are no longer chained to that old man of sin. Do you not know this? Believe God's truth and be free from sin, and not live in the bondage of sin any longer.
John 8:32
32 And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.
32 And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.
STEP TWO - SEPARATION FROM BAD INFLUENCES
We must separate ourselves from the people, places, and the things that tempt us to sin! Look at (2 Timothy 2:19-22) below.
2 Timothy 2:19-22
19 Nevertheless the foundation of God standeth sure, having this seal, The Lord knoweth them that are his. And, let every one that nameth the name of Christ depart from iniquity.
20 But in a great house there are not only vessels of gold and of silver, but also of wood and of earth; and some to honour, and some to dishonour.
21 If a man therefore purge himself from these, he shall be a vessel unto honour, sanctified, and meet for the master's use, and prepared unto every good work.
22 Flee also youthful lusts: but follow righteousness, faith, charity, peace, with them that call on the Lord out of a pure heart.

22 Flee also youthful lusts: but follow righteousness, faith, charity, peace, with them that call on the Lord out of a pure heart.
You need to change the company you keep, and the places you go! Follow people and places that follow righteousness, faith, charity, peace, and with them that call on the Lord out of a pure heart. Look at (2 Corinthians 6:14-17) below. If you are saved, you live in a different world than lost people.
2 Corinthians 6:14-17
14 Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness?
15 And what concord hath Christ with Belial? or what part hath he that believeth with an infidel?
16 And what agreement hath the temple of God with idols? for ye are the temple of the living God; as God hath said, I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people.
17 Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you.
14 Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness?

17 Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you.
Look at (1 Corinthians 5:9-11) below. This tells you to even separate from a Christian that is a fornicator, or covetous, or an idolator, or a railer, or a drunkard, or an extortioner.
1 Corinthians 5:9-11
9 I wrote unto you in an epistle not to company with fornicators:
10 Yet not altogether with the fornicators of this world, or with the covetous, or extortioners, or with idolaters; for then must ye needs go out of the world.
11 But now I have written unto you not to keep company, if any man that is called a brother be a fornicator, or covetous, or an idolator, or a railer, or a drunkard, or an extortioner; with such an one no not to eat.

Why does God keep talking about separation? Because the company you keep, and the places that you go, influence you for bad or good! Look at (Proverbs 13:20) below.
Proverbs 13:20
20 He that walketh with wise men shall be wise: but a companion of fools shall be destroyed.
20 He that walketh with wise men shall be wise: but a companion of fools shall be destroyed.
To many Christians never change their company, and the places they go. As a result, they wind up back in their old bad ways. Look at (2 Peter 2:22) below. Separation is absolutely mandatory to overcome sin and bad habits!
2 Peter 2:22
22 But it is happened unto them according to the true proverb, The dog is turned to his own vomit again; and the sow that was washed to her wallowing in the mire.
22 But it is happened unto them according to the true proverb, The dog is turned to his own vomit again; and the sow that was washed to her wallowing in the mire.
STEP THREE - RENEWING OF YOUR MIND
Your mind must be renewed. Look at (Romans 12:1-2) below. Your mind needs rewired! Your mind must be renewed for your life to be transformed.
Romans 12:1-2
1 I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.
2 And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.

The mind is an accumulation of thoughts, ideas, opinions, imaginations and beliefs. Look at the definition of the "mind" below.

We have false thoughts, ideas, opinions, imaginations, and beliefs on every subject under the sun. Our minds are full of files. The false files come from the world the flesh and the devel. By nature, we are full of lies. Even after being saved, our minds are still full of false files that come from the world the flesh and the devel. To transform your life, your mind must be renewed. God wants to reach into your mind and remove all the bad files. God wants to put truth in your mind. For Christ to take control of your mind, it must be renewed. Look at (1 John 2:16) and (Ephesians 2:3) below to see what our minds are full of in an unsaved state, and for those Christians refusing to believe God's words.
1 John 2:16
16 For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.
16 For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.
Ephesians 2:3
3 Among whom also we all had our conversation in times past in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind; and were by nature the children of wrath, even as others.
3 Among whom also we all had our conversation in times past in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind; and were by nature the children of wrath, even as others.
Now, how do we renew our mind? Look at (Colossians 3:9-10) below. We have to put off the old man, and put on the new man. We are renewed by knowledge of the one that created us.
Colossians 3:9-10
9 Lie not one to another, seeing that ye have put off the old man with his deeds;
10 And have put on the new man, which is renewed in knowledge after the image of him that created him:
9 Lie not one to another, seeing that ye have put off the old man with his deeds;
10 And have put on the new man, which is renewed in knowledge after the image of him that created him:
Where does this knowledge come from? From Christ! Look at (Colossians 3:16) below. Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom!
Colossians 3:16
16 Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.
16 Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.
The renewing of our minds comes from the word of Christ. As the word of Christ begins to dwell in you, your mind is renewed with new knowledge. God empties out the old false files and puts in new files of truth. Our minds are renewed by the word of God. We get a new mind, a sound mind, the mind of Christ. The King James Holy Bible is the only Book that can renew your mind. You must open it, read it, and study it. You can not have victory over sin, if you do not spend time in the Bible. Faith believes what God says, regardless of the way you feel about it.
In Closing - To Have Complete Victory Over Sin
1. Believe God! God saved us from the penalty of sin, and from the power of sin!
2. We must separate ourselves from the people, places, and the things that tempt us to sin!
3. Your mind must be renewed!
