THE ETERNAL BLESSINGS OF THE NEW COVENANT Pastor Art Watkins of Coden Bible Church (Coden, Alabama) May 16, 2018 The Old Covenant was not a permanent covenant. It had a beginning (Gal. 3:19) and ending. (Rom. 10:4) It was abolished at the cross. (Eph. 2:14-15) Hence, the blessings of the Old Covenant were not eternal, but temporal and earthly. See Duet. 28:1-13. The New Covenant is called an everlasting covenant. (Heb. 13:20) Its beginning was at the cross and it will never be abolished. (See Heb. 9:15-17, 10:9) Hence, the blessings of the New Covenant are spiritual and eternal. Here is a list of the eternal blessings of the New Covenant that we enjoy today. ****Eternal redemption**** Hebrews 9:12: Neither by the blood of goats and calves, but by his own blood he entered in once into the holy place, having obtained eternal redemption for us. ****Eternal salvation**** Hebrews 5:9: And being made perfect, he became the author of eternal salvation unto all them that obey him; ****Eternal Inheritance**** Hebrews 9:15: And for this cause he is the mediator of the new testament, that by means of death, for the redemption of the transgressions that were under the first testament, they which are called might receive the promise of eternal inheritance. ****Eternal Perfection**** Hebrews 10:14: For by one offering he hath perfected for ever them that are sanctified. ****Eternal High Priest**** Hebrews 6:20: Whither the forerunner is for us entered, even Jesus, made an high priest for ever after the order of Melchisedec. ****Intercessor**** Hebrews 7:25: Wherefore he is able also to save them to the uttermost that come unto God by him, seeing he ever liveth to make intercession for them. ****Eternal Sacrifice**** Hebrews 10:12: But this man, after he had offered one sacrifice for sins for ever, sat down on the right hand of God. ****Eternal Life**** 1 John 5:11-13: And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life. These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God.
