IS IT SIN TO DRINK FOR A CHRISTIAN - TO DRINK ALCOHOL? Pastor Art Watkins of Coden Bible Church (Coden, Alabama) July 25, 2012 Recently I read a long discussion on Face Book about the issue of should a Christian drink alcohol and should a Christian own a bar room or night club. My answer to these issues is this: The question should not be is it OK to drink alcohol. The question should be; Is alcohol poison? The answer is yes. Just take a look at all the poison chemicals in beer itself, much less the hard alcohol. Look at what this poison does to the body. It is a lethal poison. The next question is this: Did God say our bodies are the temple of God? The answer is yes. Is it sin to defile the temple of God? The answer is yes. (1 Cor. 3:16-17) Is it sin to poison the temple of God? Of course it is. Is alcohol poison? Yes. Here is another way to look at it: Is alcohol a drug? Yes it is and it is the most dangerous destructive drug in American and it kills more people than all the other drugs combined. (I speak from bad experience) Should a Christian take drugs? Of course not for drugs like poison defiles the temple of God which is our body. As far as bar rooms and night clubs are concerned: A bar room is nothing more than a place where people go to buy the liquid drug called alcohol. A bartender is a legal drug dealer. Night clubs are places where people go to buy the drug alcohol and commit vertical fornication on the dance floor. In the ministry and in my own life I have seen the destruction that the poison drug called alcohol causes to the body, the home, children and marriages. What amazes me is how some Christians, including preachers, take such a weak stance against this drug that poisons the temple of God and how some even defend its use.
